SubZero

2013SubZero2

Tabatha has always been an adventurous eater.  She will try anything at least once, and she rarely complains when my gluten and milk free concoctions don’t always turn out.  I know that one of the things she misses the most is the ability to go to Dairy Queen, or Cold Stone Creamery, or anyplace really to have dessert.  Unless it is fruit, few restaurants or fast food places offer safe foods for her.  So when Tabatha received a gift card at Christmas for SubZero her first question was “can I really eat there.”  It is a legitimate question.  Luckily, SubZero offers soy and rice milk as a base for their ice creams.  Since they start with liquid milk then quickly freeze it using Liquid Nitrogen, they can add all sorts of things that are safe for Tabatha.

So Tabatha has wanted to go everyday since Christmas, and finally we were able to go.  I realized with Ken in school, waiting for a night or week-end was just taking too long, so I grabbed my daughters and we headed out.  Tabatha picked a soy milk (they said it froze better), added various fruits, and right before our eyes the ice cream quickly formed.  Tabatha wanted the super freeze, meaning it was extra cold, and it really was.  One large cup was enough for all of us, and for the first time in a long time, Tabatha didn’t have to eat a cookie we had snuck in for dessert.  So although it was freezing cold, it was still a lot of fun. One of the few places with dairy and gluten free desserts, and a mother daughter date night to boot. This place is well worth the trip.
